On 25th of September 2019 in the Konjic Mayor’s Mr. Emir Bubalo office was held signing of the Partnership Agreement in the implementation of the project “Training of women for carpet weaving”.
Area of Konjic municipality has traditionally owned and developed handicrafts and was known for its handicrafts and woodwork. In order to preserve the tradition and with expressed interest of company ”Carpet Centar” Ltd. from Capljina for creating and presenting the art of handmade carpets, the idea was initiated to organize training of women for carpet weaving in Konjic.
According to all above, and the existence of women interest to participate in this training, stakeholders agreed that through the implementer of the Economic Development Agency “PRVI KORAK” Ltd. will implement the project “Training of women for carpet weaving”, through training for 22 women from Konjic municipality. The training would be carried out for a period of three months which, upon completion of the training, would have the opportunity to continue cooperation with the said company, which depends of acquired knowledge and their interest in further work.
For the purpose of training, a woman from Turkey is hired to stay in Konjic for the foreseen period and be available to women on weekdays from 7:30 to 12:30 and teach them carpet weaving techniques.
The implementation of this project would contribute to the empowerment of women in the Konjic municipality through the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to handmade high-quality carpets, which would ultimately contribute to creating employment conditions as well as generating income locally.
Beside the Konjic Municipality and the Economic Development Agency ”PRVI KORAK” Ltd., the partners in this project are the Federal Employment Office, the Swiss Helvetas Foundation through the project “Moja Buducnost” and the company ”Carpet Center” Ltd. Capljina, who provided technical and financial support for the implementation of project “Training of Women for Carpet Weaving”, with total value about 61,280.00 BAM.
